Originally known as Derek X, Sadat took his name from former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat. In 1996, Sadat recorded on the America is Dying Slow compilation CD by the organization Red Hot, along with Biz Markie, Wu-Tang Clan, Fat Joe and others. The CD, intended to educate African-American men about the AIDS epidemic, has been called a "masterpiece" by The Source magazine.
